While Aspen has made a name for itself as a winter destination for world class skiing, discover memorable ways to experience the mountains beyond the slopes.

Arts & Culture
Located in the heart of downtown Aspen, the Aspen Art Museum's building itself is a work of art. The 30,000+ sq. ft. museum was designed by Shigeru Ban, the recipient of many awards for architecture and design, and recognized by the American Institute for Architects as one of the year's winners for "best contemporary architecture" (2017). From exhibitions to critical dialogues and community activities, the Aspen Art Museum is an unforgettable way to enjoy time off the slopes (free admission Tuesdays – Sundays from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.). The Aspen Art Museum is only one way to experience arts and culture; check out a full lineup of events and arts and culture throughout the season.

Cross-Country Skiing
The Aspen Snowmass Nordic Trail System boasts close to 60 miles of free cross-country ski and snowshoe trails that connect the communities of Aspen, Snowmass, and Basalt. The trails offer a variety of terrain for a range of abilities, from beginners to experts. Rent cross country skis, take a lesson, or head out on a lesson at the Aspen Cross Country Center.

Ice Skating
Ice Skating is a winter activity that offers fun for all ages. Ice skate under the open sky at CP Burger or skate on an NHL-size rink at the Aspen Rec Center.

Fly Fishing
Fly-fishing is one of the few sports adventurers can enjoy year-round in Aspen. With 45 miles of designated Gold Medal waters, our local rivers are known for exceptional fly fishing.

Ice Climbing
Searching for a completely unique way to experience Aspen off the slopes? Learn how to ice climb with Aspen Expeditions. Their professional guides offer ice climbing for beginners and take advanced climbers to steeper, multi-pitch ice curtains.

Snowmobiling
Take a snowmobile tour with T-Lazy-7. From tours of the Maroon Bells to Independence Pass, snowmobiling is an exhilarating way to explore some of the most beautiful places in Aspen.

Snowshoeing
Aspen Center for Environmental Studies (ACES) offers daily snowshoe tours on Aspen Mountain, Ashcroft and Snowmass. Guests can also opt to hire an ACES naturalist guide and explore the mountains on their own schedule. Learn about winter ecology as you move through the snow-covered forests at a relaxed pace.

Sleigh Rides
Bundle up with blankets and take in the beauty of the mountains or the night sky while horses pull your sleigh to Pine Creek Cookhouse, where you'll enjoy an alpine-inspired lunch or dinner.
There's more to explore! From fat biking to wellness and yoga studios, and more, off-mountain adventures await.
