JAS/JFMAF Sonic Showdown to Showcase Talented Student Musicians from Throughout the Valley
Saturday, May 19 at The Temporary in Basalt
ASPEN, CO, May 9, 2018 – Jazz Aspen Snowmass (JAS) and the Jake Foerster Music Arts Fund (JFMAF) recently announced a new partnership to increase awareness and reach of the existing JFMAF Scholarship Fund, and to co-present new programming creating more opportunities for students to expand their drive and expertise in the medium of sound. Together the organizations provided seven scholarships to deserving students this spring in Aspen, Basalt, Carbondale and Glenwood Springs.
On Saturday, May 19 the organizations will be launching the new Sonic Showdown event, presented in association with The Arts Campus at Willits (TACAW) at their interim home, The Temporary, in Basalt. Taking place from 2-5pm, the Showdown will showcase talented Valley students in a variety of musical forms. Current acts scheduled include jazz and rock bands, DJs, rappers and more. The event is free and open to the public.
An online auction, raising funds for future scholarships, is open now and can be accessed at jasstore.org. All items will also be available for bid at the Sonic Showdown, including a 7-night stay in Sayulita, Nayrit, Mexico, D’Angelico Guitar, High Society SUP, JAS Labor Day tickets and more!
Sonic Showdown is a reimagining of the former JAS Band Battle, a popular spring event for many years. “We wanted to create an event like Band Battle that really opened up the range of music being offered. Instead of focusing on just bands, we are now opening up the experience to musicians of all types: instrumental, vocal and digital” says Andrea Beard, Senior Vice President of Jazz Aspen Snowmass. “We’re thankful to The Arts Campus at Willits for hosting this event at their amazing space in. It’s such a great opportunity for students to have the experience of playing on a real stage.”
EJ Foerster, Executive Director of JFMAF exclaimed “The talent we have from Aspen to Rifle is truly amazing, I can’t wait to see these artists bring their A game to the stage”
Applications for participants are still being accepted. For more information or to apply please visit JAS at jazzaspensnowmass.org. Additional details on the event can be found at JFMAF at jakefoersterfund.org or The Temporary at tacaw.org.
