Final JAS Labor Day Artists Announced
Multiple 2019 Grammy Winner H.E.R. & Turkuaz
to perform prior to Sting on September 1
The 2019 Grammy Award Winner for Best R&B Album and Best R&B Performance, H.E.R., has just been added to the JAS Labor Day Experience line-up, performing on Sunday, September 1 prior to Sting. Funk, alternative, rock, R&B and psychedelic band Turkuaz was also announced as the early act for the same day, finalizing the full weekend line-up for the main stage which also includes John Mayer, Luke Comps and ZZ Ward on Aug. 31, and Weezer and Portugal. The Man on Aug. 30.
In addition to her Grammy wins, H.E.R. was also nominated for three additional Grammys in 2019: Best New Artist, Album of the Year, and Best R&B Song. The enigmatic singer/songwriter has established herself as one of modern pop’s most fascinating new voices – an artist with a keen skill for channeling the pain and ecstasy of life through a variety of sonic moods.
Since emerging in 2011, Brooklyn-based nonet Turkuaz has quietly animated a movement. Their latest album, Life In the City, ignites an explosion of energy punctuated by neon hues, deft musicality, and show-stopping singalongs. The New Yorker says of Turkuaz, “the band delivers horn-filled funk incorporating elements of R&B, psychedelic pop, gospel, Afro-pop, New Wave, classic rock, and just about any genre that gets people dancing.”
