The obvious choice for kids winter recreation in Aspen Snowmass is Ski School. Aspen Skiing Company has a variety of ski school options. Those in the know recommend Snowmass and Buttermilk mountains for early learners.

In addition to skiing there are plenty of things for the kids to do during the winter months:

1. The ASPEN RECREATION CENTER! This place is a dream for parents and kids alike. The Whoa Nelly sledding hill is located behind the building, and if you don't have your own sled you may rent one for $5. Warm up after sledding with a soak in the hot tub. Swim at the indoor pool and ride the  2-story water slide for hours, or try out 32ft. indoor rock climbing on the tower.  With an onsite snack bar, locker room, ice rink and work out facility, the whole family will be entertained.

2.  The Silver Circle Ice Rink located across from the Rubey Park Bus Station at the base of Aspen Mountain is Aspen's only outdoor rink and the picturesque setting is instagram worthy. The location can't be beaten and the kids will be entertained day or night with this family fun activity.  As an added bonus CP Burger is located on premise, featuring kid-friendly nosh.

3. Take a horse and carriage ride around historic downtown Aspen. Typically the driver and carriage are located across the street from Paradise Bakery, and you can sign up in person.

4. Aspen Center for Environmental Studies (ACES), Aspen Historical Society and Aspen Art Museum all offer educational and fun programming for children in the winter months. Head out on a snowshoe adventure, or delve into an explorer photography workshop. Check out their offerings during your vacation.

5. Wintersköl and 12 Days of Aspen are chock full of FREE family events, they vary from year to year, so be sure to check out the updated schedule during your visit.

6. Build-a-pie @ Bruno's. Have a budding chef in your bunch? Most kids dig pizza so head over to Brunelleschi's Pizza and they can each make their very own pizza pie! Kids will love this hands-on family night out for dinner.

7. SWEETS. Just in case all else fails, we have sugar. Paradise Bakery & Cafe serves homemade cookies and incredibly rich hot chocolate.

8. Learn to cook as a family! The Cooking School of Aspen offers courses for the whole family or in a group. Their kid's classes will bring out the chef in anyone. These hands-on cooking classes will have your child teaching you culinary tricks the next time you cook a family meal together.

9. Puppies! Come and play with the puppies at the Aspen Animal Shelter. Yes, the puppies and dogs at the animal shelter need socialization and they will let you play with a puppy or take a dog out for a walk for free! See how quickly you fall in love.

10. Need a break? Aspen Babysitters to the rescue!  Aspen Babysitting Company, Aspen Nannies or A Mom's Day Off can all provide high quality care for your children, so you can have some R&R.
