Elevate your heart rate quickly by hiking the Ute Trail, accessed off of Ute Avenue. You will climb nearly 1,200 feet in .9 miles, the bird's eye view of Aspen at the top of the trail is worth every step. If you're up for it, you can continue up Aspen Mountain to the top to enjoy lunch at the Sundeck and then take the Gondola down for free.


Independence Pass provides not only a thrilling drive into down, it also serves as a playground for rock climbers. Just a few miles from town you can push yourself to new limits on the granite faces above Highway 82.

Smuggler is well known as a hiking trail, but for those a bit more daring - saddle up your mountain bike and head up the grueling road. Once you get to the top you can drop into the Hunter Creek valley which provides a vast array of single track trails for the technical rider.
