Aspen Historical Society (AHS) will host the annual Ice Cream Social on Saturday, August 4th from 2pm – 4pm at the Wheeler/Stallard Museum grounds. Admission is free with ice cream bowls and spiked “Aspen Crud” milkshakes available for a small fee. As a small token of gratitude and to commemorate the unmatched community spirit that has bolstered the Roaring Fork Valley throughout the challenges of the Lake Christine fire, AHS will offer free ice cream for fire crews, first responders, and their families for this year’s event.
The all-ages community gathering will feature music from the Roaring Fork High School Jazz band beginning at 2pm, followed by a presentation of “A Briefly Complete History of Aspen,” a theatrical crash-course in Aspen history performed by professionally-trained actors at 3pm. Ice cream bowls and cones will be available to purchase for $3 each and “Aspen Crud” spiked milkshakes (a favorite prohibition-era libation at the Hotel Jerome bar) will be available for $5. Lawn games will be set up for guests to play throughout the party.
Ice cream socials have been a popular community tradition in Aspen since the mining years. Each summer, AHS looks forward to celebrating this “cool” historic gathering with fun for the whole family and of course, ice cream! This year’s event is made possible by underwriters Obermeyer Wood Investment Council with ice cream generously provided by Paradise Bakery.
