Your Guide to Après Ski in Aspen
Après ski can be just as fun as a powder day in Aspen. From raging pool parties to champagne showers and mellow hangouts scattered throughout downtown, whichever direction you choose, you can’t go wrong in Aspen.
See and be seen:
Ajax Tavern- Located conveniently at the base of Aspen Mountain, Ajax Tavern’s sun drenched patio is notorious for consistently having a packed après scene almost daily in the winter. Famous for its spectacular views (or the truffle fries alone as some argue), there’s usually a wait at this favorite spot. Not to worry as there’s an additional outdoor bar to conveniently quench your thirst in between songs from the DJ, and incredible people watching to make you stay until the sun goes down.
J Bar- Located inside the historic Hotel Jerome, the J Bar has been known as Aspen’s favorite watering hole for well over a century. The authentic saloon ambiance has been beloved by many familiar faces such as Hunter S. Thompson, who frequented the J Bar in the 1960s and 70s. If you’re looking to imbibe in classic Jerome style, order the infamous Aspen Crud, a drink steep in in the Hotel Jerome’s history. Like many bars across the country, J Bar was converted into a soda fountain during Prohibition, and the Aspen Crud was a milkshake with a ‘kick’ invented around that time for people to covertly enjoy a taste of the good stuff.
39 Degrees at Sky Hotel- Walk just a few steps away from Ajax Tavern, and you’ll stumble upon the greatest après ski pool party scene in the country. Enjoy a heated pool, hot tub, DJ, and a crowd mixed of both locals and visitors. To get a better idea of what goes on at the Sky Hotel’s infamous après scene at 39 Degrees, click here.
Aspen Brewing Company- Head to the Aspen Brewing Company’s tap room in downtown Aspen on Restaurant Row and you’ll find a room full of locals with their four legged friends (yes, it’s pet friendly), and delicious local brew. Open seven days a week from 12 p.m. to 12 a.m., Aspen Brewing Company offers happy hour daily from 5-7 p.m. with $4 pints and $15 pitchers. Find out what’s currently on tap now.
