Winter Art and Culture Events to Look Forward to in Aspen
From stage to screen, Aspen has long been the celebrated host to creative expression. Purchase tickets early and grab a front seat at one of these arts and culture events taking place this winter in Aspen:
Wheeler Opera House will kick off the winter season with their winter series December Delights (Dec 7-31) at the Wheeler, a festive month of sparkle and shine that will take place at the historic opera house. Their annual Aspen Laugh Festival (Feb 19-22) is also a must-see with this year's host starring Trevor Noah.
AspenFilm’s Academy Screenings, scheduled for Jan 4- 7, 2020, will highlight 20 acclaimed films which are all actively campaigning for academy Award consideration. AspenFilm’s ShortsFest, scheduled for March 31- April 5, 2020, is considered one of the world's premier international short film and video showcases for the trend-setting art form: the short. Aspen ShortsFest offers a lively, thought-provoking, and humorous selection of drama, comedy, animation and documentary – all at 40 minutes or less.
Aspen Music Festival presents the following celebrated musicians as part of the Winter Music Recital series at the stunning Harris Concert Hall:
- February 6 – William Hagen and Albert Cano, violin piano
- February 13 – Joyce Yang, piano
- February 20 – David Finckel and Wu Han, cello piano
Aspen Santa Fe Ballet’s 2019-20 winter performance series kicks off with the holiday season staple The Nutcracker with four performances over the weekend of December 21-22. ASFB will bring back an encore performance of Nicolo Fonte's Beautiful Decay to town on February 28 & 29, and defy gravity with new edge performance Diavolo on March 27. Tickets for all winter performances are on sale.
Aspen Words’ annual Winter Words will run January through March 2020 with five different events. This year will feature notable authors who have reached the top of the best-seller list, been celebrated with the highest literary accolades and had books adapted into Hollywood hits. Aspen Words will also host a book talk with Aspen Words Executive Director Adrienne Brodeur to discuss her new memoir "Wild Game: My Mother, Her Lover and Me."
Jazz Aspen Snowmass’ winter JAS Café series will feature world-renowned jazz artists in the downstairs area of The Little Nell as well as the Velvet Buck in the St. Regis. The series will take place December 20-March 30 and will include jazz, vocal and world music in a unique and intimate setting. Check back soon for more artist announcements.
