Winter Art and Culture Events to Look Forward to in Aspen

From stage to screen, Aspen has long been the celebrated host to creative expression. Purchase tickets early and grab a front seat at one of these arts and culture events taking place this winter in Aspen:

Aspen Art Museum continues with a season of renowned exhibitions, including the following, which open on December 15, 2017:

  • Nate Lowman, Dec. 15, 2017- June 10, 2018
  • Zoe Crosher: Prospecting Palm Fronds, Dec. 15, 2017- May 13, 2018
  • Utopia Post Utopia, Dec. 15, 2017- May 13, 2018
  • Dara Friedman: Mother rum, Dec. 15, 2017- May 13, 2018

AspenFilm’s Academy Screenings, scheduled for Dec. 19- 30, 2017, will highlight 20 acclaimed films which are all actively campaigning for academy Award consideration. AspenFilm’s ShortsFest, scheduled for April 3-8, 2018, is considered one of the world's premier international short film and video showcases for the trend-setting art form: the short. Aspen ShortsFest offers a lively, thought-provoking, and humorous selection of drama, comedy, animation and documentary – all at 40 minutes or less.

Aspen Music Festival presents the following celebrated musicians as part of the Winter Music Recital series at the stunning Harris Concert Hall: 

  • February 28 – Inon Barnatan, piano
  • March 10 – William Hagen, violin
  • March 15 – Pacific Quartet

Aspen Santa Fe Ballet’s 2017-18 winter performance series kicks off with the holiday season staple The Nutcracker with four performances over the weekend of December 9-10. ASFB will bring exclusive only-night-only Ailey II to town on February 16, and unveil a premier of a new ballet in collaboration with the Aspen Music Festival & School on March 24. Tickets for all winter performances go on sale on November 8.

Aspen Words’ annual Winter Words will run January through April 2018 with five different events. Authors for all events will be announced soon. Aspen Words will also host their Roaring Fork Valley Youth Poetry Slam on February 16 with four award-winning slam poets and high schoolers from throughout the Roaring Fork Valley.

Jazz Aspen Snowmass’ winter JAS Café series will feature world-renowned jazz artists in the downstairs area of The Little Nell as well as the Cooking School of Aspen and the rooftop of the Aspen Art Museum. Dee Dee Bridgewater will perform December 29-30. Check back soon for more artist announcements.
