Noteworthy Artists Coming to Aspen This Summer

Aspen swells with talent during the summer season as cultural organizations bring in world-renowned artists and leaders for a summer filled with art exhibitions, lecture series, festivals and more. Following are a few highlights of Aspen’s arts and culture summer 2016 calendar:

Aspen Music Festival and School (AMFS) presents its 67th season June 30 – Aug. 21, 2016. Featured artists for this year’s festival include Sarah Chang, Renee Fleming, Joshua Bell and more. The 2016 summer festival season will explore the uses of dance form in music. Invitation to Dance points to the use of dance elements in musical works over many centuries. AMFS culminates more than 320 public events (many of them free) including concerts, master classes, rehearsals, lectures and discussions.downtown.C2photo.jpg

Jazz Aspen Snowmass’ June Festival includes four nights of concerts from musicians at the Benedict Music Tent (June 24-26), and a free Nightly Lawn Party on the Music Festival Grounds with food vendors, bars, and two live music stages. The 2016 JAS Experience features Diana Ross, Sheryl Crow, Smokey Robinson and more. The incredibly popular open-air Labor Day Festival returns to Snowmass Sept. 2-4, bringing big names to the stunning alfresco summer setting including Stevie Wonder, The Killers, Thievery Corporation, and Duran Duran to name a few. Tickets and lodging packages can be purchased online. JAS also presents an expanded JAS Café, a series of summer and winter jazz performances taking place in an intimate nightclub setting at downstairs at The Little Nell, on the rooftop of the Aspen Art Museum, and new this year, and the Cooking School of Aspen.

Belly Up’s summer calendar has quickly started to fill up. June kicks off with a lineup including Ghostland Observatory, Ziggy Marley, Stephen Marley and Thomas Jack. Additional performances scheduled in July and August include a two-night run from Thievery Corporation, Boz Scaggs and Keb Mo.
