The Limelight Hotel will present its first installment of its new, summer art series called “Demystifying Art” kicking off Wednesday, June 29. The Limelight Dialogues aim to provide a deeper understanding of different art forms to the Aspen community. Leaders of the art organizations from the Roaring Fork Valley will give their insights on art pieces through explanations and performances.
The series begins on June 29 with “Jazz 101”, a special performance geared toward exploring jazz music. Jazz Aspen Snowmass President and founder Jim Horowitz will be performing on the piano and explaining the ins and outs of jazz music. His repertoire will include music from pop to rock and classical to show how different genres can be interpreted though a Jazz lens.
On July 13th, Paige Price, Theatre Aspen Executive Director, and actors from the company’s summer production, will present “Acting for the Stage”. At this event, they will be demonstrating a scene from a recent or upcoming performance. After, they will show the audience how one scene is truly affected by the actors, playing the scene again in a comedic or dramatic way. They will even display how bad acting can affect a scene.
On August 10th, join The Aspen Music Festival and School President and CEO Alan Fletcher for a presentation on “What Makes Classical Music Classical?”
“The Mystery Of Marble: How Sense of Place Directs Us Creatively” will be the last event of the series presented on September 7th . This event will feature the director of the Carbondale Council on Arts and Humanities, Amy Kimberly, sculptor Greg Tonozzi, and Connie Baker of Marble Distilling.
Each event will be held from 6:00 p.m.- 7:30 p.m. in the Monarch Room at the Limelight Hotel. Admission is $10 per person, and includes one beer and snacks. For more information on this event, click here.
