ASPEN FILM AND WHEELER OPERA HOUSE TO PRESENT FREE HOLIDAY FILM ‘ELF’ WITH FOOD AND CLOTHING DRIVE TO BENEFIT LIFT-UP
Aspen, CO (November 16, 2016): Aspen Film, in partnership with The Wheeler Opera House and sponsors Generation Aspen and Paradise Bakery, has announced a screening of the holiday film “Elf,” with a food and clothing drive to benefit the humanitarian organization Lift-Up. Additional activities include special “Elfin” entertainment by Sol Theatre’s young actors and a costume parade where children are encouraged to dress like an elf for the event. Milk and cookies will be served after the film. Admission is free; however, organizers ask that attendees bring a donation of non-perishable food items or winter clothing. More information can be found by contacting Aspen Film 970-925-6882 / aspenfilm.org. The Wheeler Opera House is located at 320 East Hyman Avenue, Aspen, Colorado.
The two organizations are collaborating to give back to the Roaring Fork Valley by offering a free family holiday movie and to collect donated items to support a vital, local non-profit organization. Founded in 1982, Lift-Up is dedicated to providing essential humanitarian assistance in the Roaring Fork Valley. It offers seven food pantries, a mobile pantry, two thrift shops, two Extended Table dinner locations (soup kitchens), and assembles and distributes holiday food baskets. Last year, they distributed over 1700 baskets to families in need in the community. For more information, please contact the Lift-Up Administration office at 970-625-4496 or go online to www.liftup.org.
The classic holiday comedy, “Elf,” follows the story of Buddy—a man raised as an elf at the North Pole, who, after inadvertently wreaking havoc on the elf community due to his ungainly size, is sent to the U.S. in search of his true identity. Directed by Jon Favreau (“Iron Man,” “The Jungle Book”), written by David Berenbaum (“The Spiderwick Chronicles,” “The Haunted Mansion”) and starring Will Ferrell, James Caan, and Bob Newhart.
In addition to the film, milk and cookies will be served after the show where kids and parents can make cut-out, paper snowflakes and learn more about Lift-Up in the lobby of the Wheeler. Cookies have been graciously donated by Paradise Bakery.
