Carbondale, Colorado (December 22, 2016) – Carbondale’s most-loved community event 5Point Film Festival brings its concert-style presentation to the ski town of Aspen for a night of film screenings, talks and special guests that celebrate the adventure film genre, at Aspen’s Wheeler Opera House, Saturday, January 21, 2017. The event will be a fundraiser for 5Point’s 10-year anniversary signature festival that will take place this April 20-23, 2017 and will also mark the launch of the festival’s 2017 Dream Project. The night kicks-off at 6pm with a guest meet and greet, Sierra Nevada beers and food for purchase. The film program runs from 7-10pm with more than 10 short films including the premier of the Pedal to Peaks Norway, a film by skier and writer Brody Leven and filmmaker and mountain biking pro Joey Schusler. “As 5Point moves into its tenth season and plans a great celebration of the last decade we look forward to bringing you a taste of the inspirational adventure storytelling in Aspen,” says newly appointed Executive Director Meaghan Lynch. “The program will take the audience all over the world with stories of triumph and pain, elation and wonder in some of the most beautiful places on Earth and leave you on the edge of your seat and compelled to get out and live your best story.”
In addition to being a fundraiser, 5Point Aspen will mark the launch of the organization’s 2017 Dream Project, a unique program that offers outstanding high school students from Aspen to Parachute the chance to explore their own personal boundaries and dreams. The five students that best exemplify 5Point’s five guiding principles will receive a $1500 scholarship to embark on a life-changing journey and follow their passions. Previous recipients of the grant have undertaken projects including leading a youth backpacking trip in the Roaring Fork Valley, shadowing writers in New York, teaching soccer in Puerto Rico and kayaking and performing malaria work in Uganda. Applicants can visit the 5Point website to submit an application or for more information: http://5pointfilm.org/dream/applying.
