SUMMER 2010

Dear Journalist,

Aspen may be identified by its renowned skiing and snowboarding, but when the snow melts and the leaves return, a different Aspen emerges, beckoning outdoor adventurists, artists, musicians and writers to an idyllic mountain town with roots as deep as the mountains are high.

Situated on the western slope of the Rockies, bordered by two of Colorado's most scenic and accessible mountain ranges, with the Roaring Fork River running through the heart of downtown, Aspen in summer is a Mecca for world-class athletes who train on local trails and rivers. Summer not only marks another season of outdoor pursuits, but brings an arts and cultural calendar rivaling those of big cities.

The summer calendar kicks off with the third annual Aspen Rooftop Comedy Festival at the Wheeler Opera House (June 9 - 13, 2010), an independent showcase for new stand-up and sketch comedy, and the NEW event Outside in AspenTM (June 11 - 13, 2010) showcasing the active Aspen lifestyle. Next up is the 28th annual FOOD & WINE Classic in Aspen (June 18 - 20, 2010), the nation's premier culinary festival, and Aspen Summer Words, (June 20 - 25, 2010), hailed by USA Today as one of the nation's "Top Ten Literary Gatherings".

July welcomes the 61st Aspen Music Festival and School (July 1 - Aug. 22, 2010) and the nationally recognized Aspen Santa Fe Ballet (July 16- Aug. 25, 2010). August hosts the second annual Mountain Summit Festival (Aug. 26, 2010) and the Aspen BBQ Block Party (Aug. 28 - 29, 2010). Cap off the summer by attending the popular Jazz Aspen Snowmass Labor Day Festival (Sept. 3 - 5, 2010), which draws more than 30,000 music fans to three stages of live music.

These are just some of the highlights from a robust calendar stretching from Memorial Day through the end of September. We've recently updated our summer and fall 2010 Media Kits with information about Aspen's myriad of events, outdoor pursuits, new attractions and activities, and more.

We look forward to telling you about our unique mountain town, discussing story ideas, providing more detailed information, helping arrange a visit, or just giving you a local's perspective on living in America's finest small town.

We are constantly compiling new information about Aspen, and we will be updating these releases regularly. Please contact us if you are working on a story or would like to arrange a visit.

Sincerely,
